The Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) therapy treats hair loss conditions among patients in an advanced manner that is non-surgical and therapeutic.

The basic approach to treat hair loss through this process is a three-step procedure. The first step involves drawing the blood from the patient, typically from the arms. The second step is putting the blood into a centrifuge and the final step is injecting the blood into the scalp of the patient.

Along with these three steps, one more important step is performed before the final step. The aim of performing this step is to prepare the scalp to receive PRP. This is done by applying topical anesthesia into that portion of the scalp where the PRP is to be injected.

The theory of this therapy is very simple. When the blood is put into a centrifuge, the centrifuge spins rapidly and separates the blood into three layers namely platelet-poor plasma, platelet-rich plasma, and red blood cells. The platelet-rich plasma contains approximately three to five times the number of proteins found in normal circulating blood. By injecting the platelet-rich plasma into the scalp, it stimulates hair growth by promoting the development of new hair follicles because the platelet-rich plasma contains platelet-derived growth factor, transforming growth factor, vascular endothelial growth factors,s, and other bioactive proteins.

The overall result of the treatment can visually be seen in about six to twelve months where the improvement can be measured in terms of an increase in Hair Mass Index with the thickened hair shaft. The need to repeat the procedure to see the optimum results and maintain the improvement varies from person to person on the basis of the area of the scalp to be treated. But on average, the treatment is repeated once every three months. The total cost of the treatment also varies from person to person as it depends on the number of cycles performed and the area of the scalp treated

Of all other benefits that are concerned with treating hair loss with PRP, the major benefit is that it uses the cells of the own body, concentrates the good cells, and injects them only into the area where it is required. By this, it eliminates the risks of allergies, hypersensitivity, and foreign body reactions. For the very same reason, it is safe and neutral. There are absolutely no chances of graft rejection and blood infections. No sedation is given during the procedure. Another benefit is the duration of the treatment that is only about 60-90 minutes. The results of this therapy look completely natural.

The reason for which this treatment has attracted medical attention is that the current methods through which PRP is prepared to have reported 700% enrichment and the concentration is consequently increasing to more than 1,000,000 platelets per liter.
